That does a number on my OCD so I just normally try to avoid them other than to verify any changes I make to a bow. I have shot this bow through three different chrono’s with the same arrow and got three different speeds. Now I don’t put much weight on chrono’s because there are too many factors that dictate the speed. With a 430gr arrow that puts me somewhere in the 410fps range. Or was that the 420? I received a pretty hot one that was shooting 423fps at the factory with a 400gr arrow. Dead is dead and the real question at that point is how far does the arrow stick in the ground after it passes through an animal! So I settled on the 140. Depending on the model, those speeds were 375fps-390fps. They were more than fast enough and much easier to cock. No way in he** am I shooting a 370gr arrow out of that 480!!!!īecause I am not a speed freak, I always shot the 135’s.

Clear as mud? Keep in mind those speeds are rated with a 370gr arrow. Originally they were known as the 180 and 140 and that was the draw weight instead of the speed rating. Scorpyd decided to release the Nemesis in both a 480 and 420. With the Death Stalker and the Nemesis their speed rating is now listed as the identifying factor. In recent years Scorpyd has really stepped up their game and getting their bows out with more consistent speeds that are obtaining their speed ratings. At times a few folks kicked up their heels because some of the bows didn’t hit that magical speed number. Because speeds were listed as “up to” that was never really an exact science. An example of this would be an Ventilator 150. Most Scorpyd Crossbows were released with multiple limb weights that were identified by those numbers. I know that’s how I bought my first one awhile back and have owned a bunch since then. Because they don’t have a blanket style of a dealer network, you may have to take a leap of faith and purchase one without ever shooting one. But in all fairness, they make a really nice crossbow that deserves that type of support. Be prepared to defend a negative comment made against Scropyd Crossbows.
